She’s Saying A Bakery Ruined Her Gender Reveal After Leaving Her A Voicemail About Her Order
A woman named Ariel, who goes by @morbidmama7 on TikTok, is saying a bakery ruined her gender reveal after they called to leave her a voicemail about the cake she ordered for it.
Ariel played the voicemail someone named Jodie at the bakery left for her in her viral TikTok video, making sure to bleep out the name of the actual bakery.
Jodie, who identifies herself as the cake decorator in the message, called to explain to Ariel that they did not have a lemon cake with blackberry filling for her.
You’re probably wondering why on earth Ariel is so upset about this voicemail in particular, because what’s the big deal about blackberries, right?
“Imagine paying $$, walking into the bakery with a sealed envelope from a doctor, curating a whole special, intimate moment with you and your partner… just to have some random, careless woman ruin it with a single voicemail,” Ariel captioned her video while admitting she cried so hard that morning it made her eyes red.
So when Ariel placed her order with the bakery, she didn’t know the gender of her baby and wanted it to be a secret for her.
She told the person who helped her with the order that she wanted raspberries or strawberries (a red berry) for the cake if she was having a girl. However, if she was having a boy, she requested blackberries or blueberries (a dark berry).
Now, for those of you who haven’t been to a gender reveal party recently, if the potential parents want the gender to be a secret for them, a trend right now is to order a cake with a filling that indicates the baby’s gender.
That way, when the couple cuts into the cake, they can tell from the filling if it’s a boy or a girl that they’re having.

In Ariel’s case, she opted for a specific kind of berry to signal to her what the gender of her baby is.
The bakery where Ariel placed her order knew that she wanted the gender of her baby to be kept a secret from her, so she couldn’t believe Jodie left the voicemail that she did, which tipped Ariel off to her baby being a boy (because blackberries).
In a second video detailing the whole story, Ariel said that when she ordered the cake, a note was made on the order insisting she didn’t want to know what the filling was to make sure that nobody would spoil the surprise for her.
Ariel wasn’t interested in dyeing the filling a color to indicate if she was having a boy or girl, so berries made perfect sense.
Ariel received Jodie’s voicemail one day after placing her order, and she attempted to turn it off, seeing where it was headed.
She even resorted to screaming in an effort to cover up what Jodie was saying, but she still heard the whole thing.
“The point of the matter was I didn’t want to find out from some stranger; I wanted to find out with my partner, with the person I love – this beautiful thing that’s happening, I wanted to find out with them, and instead, I just got a voicemail from a careless employee who obviously didn’t read the description,” Ariel continued.
Ariel called back the bakery in tears, demanding that she get a full refund on her order, which the bakery did give to her.
Not only did Ariel pre-pay for her order, but she also pre-tipped as well. Ariel went on to talk to the owner of the bakery, who told her they had blackberries in stock, so it was weird Jodie even left that voicemail.
Jodie offered up an apology to Ariel but still attempted to say there were no blackberries.
“To top it all off, when my boyfriend went to pick it up a couple of days later, he stood there for 15 minutes while the poor workers tried to find the cake because the cake decorator just put it in some random place and nobody knew where they put it,” Ariel added.
“And the person who originally took our order was there too, and said, ‘No, I wrote in the description do not call the customer. This is what they want because it’s something we can do.'”
“It was just negligent carelessness that ruined somebody’s whole experience, you know? Weaponized incompetence.”
