His Mom Called His Fiancée Childish For Having Her Bridal Shower And Bachelorette Party At Disney, But His Mom Threw Herself A Whole Renaissance Fair-Themed Birthday Party, So He Decided To Leave Early Because She’s A Hypocrite

Have you ever witnessed your parents do something you thought was pretty hypocritical?
One man recently upset his mom after he angrily left her Renaissance fair-themed birthday party because he felt she was acting hypocritical.
His mom recently turned 50, and they’ve been butting heads over the last few months. He’s engaged, and his mom has been making many snide comments about his fiancée. Aside from being standoffish with his fiancée, his mom has previously called her annoying and vapid, which greatly upset him.
Despite his mom’s behavior, he tried to stay on good terms with her, and a while back, his fiancée invited her to her bridal shower and bachelorette weekend, which was held at Disney. His fiancée is a huge Disney fan, and the weekend was very important to her, but his mom was judgmental.
His mom accused his fiancée of not only being childish and lame for liking Disney but also thought she was “vapid” for having several pre-wedding events like a bridal shower and bachelorette party.
When his mom planned a special trip for her 50th birthday, he decided not to attend for several reasons.
“I ended up skipping my mom’s birthday trip to Italy due to other commitments,” he said.
“To be fair, she was cool with this. I planned on taking her to dinner sometime since [turning] 50 is a big deal, but I received an invitation to a surprise party on the day of her actual birthday and decided to attend. When I got there, it was full Renaissance fair-themed, [with] costumes, games, food, [and] performers. It was like her own personal fair.”
The party was very impressive, and his mom was super happy with her surprise, as she’d been a fan of dressing up for Renaissance fairs for years. However, he began to feel angry as the day progressed.

He wondered how his mom could make fun of his fiancée so harshly for liking Disney when she was super passionate about something he found to be just as childish.
“How is a Renaissance fair less cringy, childish, or embarrassing than Disney?” he asked.
“And why isn’t it excessive that my mom had a trip abroad plus this party? I just could not stop thinking [that she was a] hypocrite.”
After his mom went to change into a costume for the party, he told his aunt he was leaving early. He then told his aunt that his mom should call him to apologize to his fiancée. His aunt called him a mean name, and he hasn’t heard from his mom since.
Now, his family members are angry with him for missing both of his mom’s birthday celebrations.
Was he wrong to leave the party early, or was his anger valid?
