I think the last people we expect to betray us in the world are our siblings. So, how would you feel if your sibling double-crossed you, then thought that you would bail them out of being homeless?

This 28-year-old woman and her 26-year-old sister were extremely close as kids, but they drifted apart in her senior year of high school after her sister made some bad friends and choices.

Her sister snuck out of the house to toilet paper houses or drink. She even ruined a couple of cars. Her sister became a nightmare to be around, and she lost her best friend from preschool over her behavior.

Her own relationship with her sister tanked after he sister tried to blame her for the trouble she got in or yelled at her for refusing to let her tag along to senior parties.

One night, she got home from a party to find her sister had destroyed her room. When she went off to college, she didn’t talk to her sister for three years.

But she seemed to have grown up and calmed down some, so they reconnected. While their bond was never the same, her sister said sorry for what she put her through.

“For a few years, things were okay, but then she started to get toxic again, and eventually I found out she was sleeping with my boyfriend of five years,” she explained.

“I broke up with him and told her to remove herself from my life for good. Our parents were distraught because they wanted to believe she had stopped [messing] up like that.”

“It got worse when we found out she was pregnant with my ex’s baby, and she was blaming me for him bailing and leaving no trace of himself anywhere. I refused to get involved, and I left her to her own devices. She had no problem blaming me for a solid year. She even contacted friends of mine to spread that [nonsense] around.”

One month ago, her sister got evicted, and now she’s homeless along with her two-year-old. She was shocked when her sister turned up at her job one day and said she needed to move in with her.

She told her sister no way. Her sister responded that she had to get out of the shelter she was living in, so she advised that her sister should go home to their mom and dad and rebuild her life with their help.

Well, her sister did reach out to their mom and dad, who are livid with her. While her parents have allowed her sister and her kid to move in, they can’t believe she won’t help out. They’ve been calling her every week to chastise her, so she’s not taking their calls right now.

“I don’t know if my relationship with my parents can survive or recover from this, and honestly, I’m not even sure it’s a terrible thing considering they were okay with me being taken advantage of,” she continued.

“But I’m sad about it and looking for advice because this [stinks], and I still love them despite the conflict over my sister.”

I think her parents are just mad that they’re burdened with her sister since she’s not willing to do anything for her. Oh, and she didn’t do a single thing wrong, because her sister isn’t her responsibility.

She shouldn’t cave to any pressure her parents put on her. She can let them get her sister back on her feet and stay out of it all.

What advice do you have for her?
