About three years ago, TikToker Joe (@joeceraulo) went on a first date so bad that he sent a Venmo request to the girl afterward. At the time, he had been starting to see someone and was thinking about committing to her. But before he did, he went on a date with another girl to make sure he was ready to commit to the first one.
When this girl showed up to the date, she looked nothing like the pictures on her profile. The pictures were at least two years old. The place she picked for their first date was a trendy hotspot in Los Angeles known for attracting celebrities and influencers. It wasn’t exactly the kind of place where you casually grab a budget-friendly dinner.
Once they were seated, she wasted no time ordering. She ordered the most expensive glass of wine on the menu. Not only did she have one glass, but she also had two.
Then, she ordered a bunch of appetizers and devoured the food messily. Joe watched in disgust as the bill steadily climbed higher and higher throughout the evening.
Rather than spending time getting to know one another, she proceeded to spend most of the date talking about herself and how great she was.
She mentioned that she and her friend hosted a dating podcast, and she wanted to talk about their date on the podcast afterward.
That revelation didn’t exactly make Joe feel special because she was clearly using him as material for future content, but at that point, he was done caring. As the evening dragged on, he knew without a doubt in his mind that there wouldn’t be a second date.
When the bill came, she made a halfhearted offer to split the bill. He could tell that she didn’t really mean it and expected him to immediately refuse, so she was shocked when he agreed to the offer. Her reaction alone confirmed his suspicion that she never intended to contribute.
For Joe, the decision was simple. In his mind, the date had been unpleasant from start to finish, so there was no reason for him to shoulder the whole cost.

“Let me tell you, when I took her up on it, the flabbergasted look on this girl’s face was incredible,” said Joe. “You were a terrible date.”
“There’s not going to be a second one. You didn’t look anything like your pictures. I will absolutely take you up on splitting the bill. I don’t think I’m wrong for that.”
At the very least, the date answered the question it was supposed to answer. It proved that Joe was done dating around and was more than ready to commit to a relationship.
