Finally, they were so freaked out that they no longer wanted to stay the second night. After breakfast, they packed up all their stuff and went home.
Ashlee thought that a park ranger may have been checking in on them, but after consulting with a friend who was a park ranger, she learned that a ranger would not have opened the tent without announcing themselves.
Another theory was that it was an intoxicated person who lost their way back to their own campsite. But if that was the case, it would’ve been more obvious because the person probably would’ve caused some commotion. Plus, no one was camping anywhere near them.
The third theory was that someone with malicious intentions had opened the tent but left after seeing that two people were inside.
Ashlee and her boyfriend even considered the idea of a raccoon or other animal unzipping the tent, but they both clearly saw a human figure. Ten years later, Ashlee is still spooked by the experience and no longer likes state parks.
