This 38-year-old woman is a mom to a 15-year-old girl named Emma. For Emma's birthday this year, they had a little party at their home. Emma invited her best friend, Mia, and a couple of their loved ones. Her 45-year-old brother Evan was in attendance and pitched in with the party. "Emma adores Evan—he’s the "cool" uncle who’s always joking around and treating her like an adult," she explained. "I’ve always been uneasy about how permissive he is, but I never imagined he’d cross such a massive line." The night was off to an excellent start, full of snacks, laughter, and music. She expected her brother to make sure everything stayed fine as she ducked off to complete some of her work. One hour later, she went to check up on Emma, Evan, and Mia after they were nowhere to be found in the house. She was tipped off by one of the partygoers that the trio was playing board games in Emma's room. She didn't think that sounded right, so she went upstairs to find them. "What I walked into made my stomach drop," she said. "Mia was half-passed out, slumped on the bed in Emma’s room, barely able to sit up and throwing up all over herself." "Emma and Evan were hovering over her, both panicked and trying to keep her awake. I immediately demanded to know what had happened." "Emma looked petrified and didn’t say much, but Evan—calmly, almost nonchalantly—admitted he had let them drink." Not only that, but Evan mentioned that Mia had consumed about 600mls of vodka, which equates to a ton of alcohol. He brushed away her concerns and said he was keeping an eye on the girls, but she was disgusted. Mia could hardly breathe or keep her eyes open, yet Evan thought this was fine. She called for an ambulance, and Mia was whisked away to a local hospital, where it was confirmed she was suffering from alcohol poisoning. Mia will bounce back, but if she hadn't gone to check on the girls, she's worried it could have been so much worse. After getting home from the hospital, she freaked out on Evan and laced into him for putting the teens in harm's way. Evan attempted to muster up an excuse, claiming girls will find a way to drink regardless, so doing it with him present was safer. He had a smug look on his face, which served to make her even more furious. She kicked Evan out and said he's not allowed to be near Emma for the foreseeable future. "What crushed me the most was when Emma later admitted, tearfully, that this wasn’t the first time Evan had let her drink with him," she continued. "She begged me not to cut him off and said I was overreacting, claiming Evan didn’t mean for things to go so far. She also blames me for "ruining her birthday" and won’t speak to me now." "I’m devastated and furious all at once. I feel like I failed to protect my daughter, but at the same time, I can’t just forgive Evan for what he did. Emma doesn’t see it that way, though, and thinks I’m being unfair." What advice do you have for her? You can view the original post below.
