Then, her neighbor lifted the dog halfway off the ground by the collar, and she felt sick to her stomach. She knew she couldn’t allow her neighbor to continue treating his pet like that.
She still went back and forth over what to do, though, because one part of her wanted to just confront her neighbor and speak with him directly.
“But every time I looked at that dog, I saw the pain and fear in his eyes, and I just knew that nothing I could say would make this guy change his behavior,” she detailed.
That’s why she ultimately decided to contact the police and animal services. The authorities showed up, too, and took the allegations against her neighbor very seriously. He was slapped with a warning and some fines. Plus, they are supposedly “keeping tabs” on her neighbor now.
The only issue is that her neighbor somehow figured out she was the one who reported him, and he’s been making her life a nightmare ever since.
Her neighbor has begun banging on her door, shouting at her, and accusing her of “ruining his life.” He’s even tried to turn their other neighbors against her.
So, a few people have asked her if she possibly “exaggerated” her neighbor’s behavior. Meanwhile, others have flat-out suggested that she should’ve minded her own business.
“Maybe I should’ve just left it alone or tried a different approach? It’s hard to feel like I did the right thing when half the neighborhood seems to think I’m the bad guy here,” she vented.
This has left her wondering if getting involved was understandable or if she truly did go too far.
Did her neighbor deserve to face the consequences of his actions? How do you suggest she handle the aftermath?
