While at the Greenbrier Animal Hospital, it was confirmed that this flea-covered dog had broken both of her hind legs and was suffering from fractured femurs.

One fracture punctured her skin, and the staff at the hospital were concerned that she might develop an infection since she had been out in the rain all day.

Dylan washed the dog’s blood from his hands and began to break down and cry. Emily got to the hospital not long after, and they spent the next few hours laying by this dog’s side.

The following day, the veterinarian who saw the dog called Dylan with bad news: the leg with the wound most likely needed to be amputated, while her other leg would require a specialist to perform a tough surgery.

Dylan and Emily named the dog, a Goldendoodle estimated to be 9 or 10-months-old, Acklin, and they resolved to provide her with the loving home she so desperately needed.

“To be fully transparent, this is one of the toughest situations that Emily and I have ever experienced, emotionally and financially,” Dylan added.

“We are upset, we are worried, we are stressed. We have pulled the money from our wedding fund and our overall life savings to fund these medical expenses.”

In an update posted two days ago, Dylan shared that both of Acklin’s legs were able to be saved and that the surgery cost $12,000.
