She Stopped Going To Parties For Her Nephew’s Children Because She Feels Like She’s Only Viewed As An ATM For Gifts

“This all means they now have to host [for] all the holidays if they want to see anyone. They always invite us for Christmas and all the kids’ birthdays, but not other holidays when gift-giving is [not] involved.”

This pattern of invites has caused her and her husband to feel more like gift-giving ATMs than relatives.

They don’t see Tom, Kathy, and their kids unless it’s a holiday or birthday they feel obligated to bring gifts to. Other than that, she never sees or hears from them.

To make matters worse, Tom and Kathy’s house is a long, two-and-a-half-hour drive away, and after making that trip and handing over gifts, they hardly receive any gratitude or gifts in return.

Due to all of this, she decided that she would no longer be attending birthday parties for Tom and Kathy’s kids and would stop sending any gifts in the mail.

“I grew sick of feeling like our entire relationship is about me giving them gifts,” she added.

Do you think she did the right thing?
