His Fiancée Left Him At The Altar Five Years Ago, But She Just Showed Up On His Doorstep Trying To Talk To Him

Fourteen years ago, this 32-year-old man named Kris met a girl named Maya at a freshman party held at their college, Stanford.
They both are originally from Hungary, and he was excited to get to meet someone from his country.
Kris and Maya became fast friends, and they spent college breaks with one another, which resulted in their families becoming friends, too.
He developed feelings for Maya and gathered up the courage to ask her out on a date during their junior year. Six years of dating later, he got down on one knee to propose to Maya.
Maya said yes to him, and the wedding planning kicked off. They booked a venue for their ceremony and reception, and it was all seemingly going off without a hitch.
But as their wedding day approached, Maya appeared tense to Kris. He figured everyone gets cold feet before walking down the aisle, and he thought nothing more of Maya’s behavior.
“The day of the wedding came. We were in [the] chapel; all our families, friends from high school, Stanford days, work friends were there. I stood at the altar while waiting for Maya to walk down the aisle,” he explained.
“As [the] music stopped, there was still no sign of Maya or her father. Then, her mother and younger sister Angie rushed to the bridal room. I was starting to get worried, and then her father and mother approached me, hugged me, and apologized.”
“I was confused, so I decided to check the bridal room myself, and there it was: her wedding dress, and the engagement ring, and nothing else. I tried calling her, but no answer. I was blocked on Facebook, [and] Instagram.”

Kris still can’t even recall what happened in the few hours after Maya stood him up at the altar. Three months after his disastrous wedding day, he hoped that Maya would walk back into his life.
Any time the doorbell rang at his front door, he rushed over, hoping Maya would be there on his doorstep.
His mental health spiraled, and not even Maya’s family could get a hold of her as his life fell further and further apart. Nobody knew why Maya stood Kris up like that.
His boss was so worried about him that he asked Kris to take time off from work and see a therapist, which helped, but he still wanted Maya back.
Six months after his wedding date, someone named Erik reached out to Kris, saying a bridesmaid named Kelly had to speak to him.
He met Erik and Kelly at a cafe, where Kelly revealed that she was Maya’s high school friend and she knew why Maya stood him up.
Maya’s first boyfriend, Ethan, who cheated on her, contacted her right before the wedding. Maya believed Ethan had changed and was hoping to get some closure from him.
“Kelly knew Ethan was bad news, but she felt Maya would come to her senses, which [was] why she did not say anything, but then a day before the wedding, she saw Ethan and Maya kissing,” he said.
Kelly tried to make Maya see that Ethan was no good, but Maya decided to go back to Ethan instead of walking down the aisle.
Kelly sobbed and apologized, telling Kris that she should have told him what really happened at the wedding.
Following that day in the cafe, his mental health really spiraled out of control, and he ended up moving back in with his parents. Maya’s own parents spoke to him every weekend, attempting to help him through his dark times.
“…But the biggest and most unexpected source that got me out of this depression was Angie, Maya’s younger sister,” Kris added.
“She would take me out for outdoor activities like hiking, paintball, [and] surfing; slowly, I had started to heal, and I was back into [the] workforce once again. I had moved into an apartment studio in [the] same building as Angie.”
When the pandemic hit, he and Angie spent even more time together, and then she admitted to him that she had a crush on him. However, then Maya started dating him when Angie realized her feelings, so Angie said nothing.
He couldn’t believe what Angie was saying and asked for some time to think about her love confession.
Kris spent a few weeks not speaking to Angie, but then he asked her parents for their blessing to date her, and they were happy about it.
He then proposed to Angie, who didn’t leave him at the altar in July of 2021. They welcomed their first child a year later, and five months ago, Angie got pregnant with twins.
“I thought my life was completely healed, but then last Sunday, there was a knock on the door,” Kris continued.
“When I opened the door, it was as if I was back in time. I stood silent; it was Maya. It triggered something; my instincts kicked in, and I just closed the door in her face.”
Angie asked him who was at the door but he couldn’t manage a response. Angie then opened the door to find Maya, and the two girls got into a fight.
He managed to get out there to break up the sister fight, and Maya was standing there with her eyes all puffy from crying.
“…They were full of pain and regret,” Kris added. “She asked if she could talk with us, especially me, as she had something to say…”
He and Angie didn’t agree to hear Maya out that day, but he’s been wondering ever since if he should meet up with her.
