Archaeologists Discovered A 2,000-Year-Old Tomb Containing 12 Skeletons Beneath The Filming Location Of The 1989 Indiana Jones Movie

The Department of Antiquities of Jordan excavated two tombs similar to the recent one about 20 years ago, so it is not surprising that another one was found in the area. The newly discovered tomb is likely older than the Treasury.

It will help the researchers date the Treasury itself. The Treasury’s age has long been a subject of debate among experts.

Now, it has been placed sometime in the first century A.D. The artifacts found in the tomb should confirm this date.

“This discovery will hopefully shed light on the little-known burial practices of the Nabataeans since so few unlooted tombs have been excavated,” said Lucy Wadeson, an archaeologist at the University of Edinburgh who was not involved with the excavations.

“With the human remains and grave goods found in their original context, we can finally reconstruct the funeral rituals associated with these magnificent tombs.”
