Her boyfriend was visibly uncomfortable, but she didn’t say anything at that moment. She was trying to keep things civil and “make the best of it” for the sake of her mom’s birthday. Yet, throughout the dinner, all the attention was on Daniel. Her mom wouldn’t stop gushing about him, calling him “thoughtful” and blatantly comparing him to Ryan.
At one point, her mom actually claimed that she’d had “the perfect guy” and asked why she ever let Daniel go. Plus, in front of both Ryan and Daniel, her mom stated that she should feel “grateful to have options.”
“I was mortified. Ryan was clearly hurt, and I felt my mom’s comments were disrespectful to our relationship,” she explained.
That’s why she finally took her mom aside and called her out for being so rude. She reiterated that she left Daniel because he was controlling.
“And I told her that Ryan may not have Daniel’s money, but he treats me with genuine love and respect,” she added.
In response to that, her mom simply rolled her eyes, blamed her for overreacting, and accused her of “throwing away a better future.”
Since the dinner, her mom has also proceeded to tell other relatives that she’s “settling” for Ryan.
This has left her family divided. Some people think she had a right to be upset, while others believe she overreacted and should’ve been grateful that Daniel went out of his way to see her mom on her birthday.
Now, she’s been left wondering if confronting her mom was really so unreasonable or not.
