How To Clean A Sponge With Boiling Water

Submerging your sponge in boiling water will effectively kill all the germs that might be hiding in the crevices. For this method, boil one cup of water in a pot.

Once the water is boiling, put the sponge in and let it sit fully submerged for five to seven minutes. Remove the sponge, let it cool down, and wring it out to dry.

How To Clean A Sponge In The Microwave

An alternative method of ridding bacteria from your sponge is to microwave it. First, soak the sponge in water and place it in a microwave-safe dish. It’s important to get the sponge wet in order to avoid a fire hazard. Microwave the sponge on high for about 90 seconds.

When taking it out, use care because it will be hot. Once it cools down, wring it out and allow it to dry. Do not use this method on sponges with metallic scrub pads.

How To Clean A Sponge In The Dishwasher

Using a dishwasher to sanitize sponges works just as easily. You can just toss one on the top rack with a load of dishes. After adding detergent to the machine, set it to the hottest wash and dry cycle.
