When the bride and groom cut their cake in front of all their guests, it’s one of the most iconic moments you can witness at a wedding.

Sure, it’s great to get to enjoy a slice, but the wedding cake and subsequent cutting are surrounded by so much meaning. It’s meant to symbolize the unity of the newlyweds, and it’s a special photo opportunity as well.

Two weeks ago, this 29-year-old woman, her 31-year-old husband, and their 4-year-old son attended her 28-year-old best friend’s wedding.

Unfortunately, the day plunged into a downward spiral right as her best friend and her brand-new husband were about to cut their wedding cake.

First, let’s back up a bit here: while her best friend was still in the planning phase, she admitted to her that she was waffling on whether or not to invite kids to her wedding.

Now, her best friend’s sisters have kids who are about the same age as her son, and her best friend has come to view her son as one of her nephews since they’re that close.

Her best friend expressed concern over the kids preventing her from being able to relax and enjoy her big day, as she was worried the littles might ruin something.

She told her best friend that she and her husband invited kids when they got married, and it’s the only way to do things since they are family and shouldn’t be excluded.

Her best friend then spoke to her sisters too about the guest list and ultimately decided kids could be included.

On the day of her best friend’s wedding, the ceremony went great. Her best friend’s nieces sat alongside her, her son, and her husband since her sisters were part of the bridal party.

“I brought quiet activities to keep them entertained, and everybody behaved,” she explained. “I even cried from how lovely it was.”

When they all arrived at the reception, her best friend’s nieces reunited with their parents, and she had only her son to look after.

Dinner was wonderful. Her best friend had her first dance with her husband, and then all the guests hit the dance floor before cutting the cake.

The kids were running about and playing, but she didn’t keep an eye on her son, as she knew all the guests and was comfortable with her son out of her sight.

She and her husband decided to dance and have some fun. Her husband was the designated driver for the evening, so she had several glasses of wine.

As her best friend and husband got ready to cut the cake, she and her own husband had a difficult time seeing what was going on as guests were blocking their view.

Out of nowhere, she heard her best friend screaming at her son, so she and her husband pushed through the crowd.

“I see my son with frosting around his mouth and on his fingers,” she said. “The cake had a small chunk taken out of it.”

“I try to apologize, but [my] BFF turns around and yells, “This is YOUR FAULT. Your son RUINED my cake. He’s only here because YOU told me it would be worth it to include the kids!” I yelled back, telling her that it was just an accident and the rest of the cake was still edible…that this was her nephew she was screaming about.”

“She told me I was no friend of hers and he wasn’t her nephew in front of everyone. She told me to leave, or she’d call security. [My] son and I were crying, and the 3 of us left. One of the bride’s sisters reached out to me after and apologized for her sister’s reaction but said I needed to apologize.”

She believes it’s way too late for a sorry, considering how her best friend got into a screaming match with her.

She mentioned that to her best friend’s sister before outlining that she wants an apology before speaking to her best friend.

She doesn’t see how it’s on her to be the first one to issue a sorry in this situation.

“Not only did she blow up at me in front of everyone, but at my son. I’m humiliated but even more angry on his behalf,” she concluded.

What advice do you have for her?
