On top of that, he even said that she didn’t “chase him enough” to figure out what he wanted to do on his birthday!
She, on the other hand, thought he’d already made it clear he didn’t want to do anything. That’s why she figured nagging him any further would be too pushy.
Still, her boyfriend disagreed with her and believes she should have treated him to a birthday meal anyway.
“But I offered days ago to make reservations in time and was refused. He also did mention something about plans with friends, so I thought if he actually wanted something like a meal, he would let me know he didn’t have plans and that he changed his mind,” she reasoned.
Aside from just that, her boyfriend was also upset that she “hid away” in her office all day and believed she used that as an excuse to ignore him.
In her defense, though, his birthday was on a work day, and she needed to go to work. She was busy and couldn’t just be at his beck and call the entire day.
Despite all of this, her boyfriend believes that she should’ve known his birthday was an important day for him and made it special.
“I just thought that since he refused everything I offered, plus his remarks about not feeling like celebrating, he didn’t actually want to do anything for his birthday,” she vented.
Now, that obviously wasn’t the case, and her boyfriend feels like she doesn’t even care about him. So, she’s since been left wondering if not planning anything for her boyfriend’s birthday was justified given his refusal or if she should’ve pushed harder to celebrate him.
Does it sound like she tried to respect her boyfriend’s wishes? If he wanted to be celebrated, shouldn’t he have communicated that instead of expecting her to chase him?
