Summertime is here, and many of us are planning our annual vacations.

Unfortunately, whether you’re going somewhere you’ve been before or somewhere totally new, vacations get expensive.

Booking your flights or paying for gas on your road trip is expensive enough. Then, you have to worry about paying for meals and all of your activities and excursions.

However, not all the activities you enjoy on vacation have to be a burden on your wallet.

There are ways to still have fun on a trip without breaking the bank.

If you’re taking a trip soon or want to take a vacation but don’t have much cash to spend, here’s some good news. There are free activities you can do on almost any trip, so you can still have a great time without breaking the bank.

Enjoy a free museum

In many vacation destinations, you can typically find a museum that has free or discounted admission days.

Even if it’s a smaller, low-key museum, free is free, and it’s always fun to learn something new. Be sure to do some extra research online to ensure admission is free or as affordable as possible.

Look for live music events

During the summertime, many cities have all sorts of fun summer events open to the public, including festivals with live music performances.

When planning your vacation, check that it coincides with one of these events. Then, set up some chairs, grab a drink, and enjoy the entertainment!

Enjoy a hiking trail

This may be obvious, but a nice long walk is one of the best free activities. Cheap vacations are especially easy to achieve for people who love to walk and wander around. Pick a destination with gorgeous and scenic hiking trails that will please your adventurous heart and keep you moving.

Explore a fun neighborhood

Something I love to do when I’m in a new state or big city is pick a fun neighborhood or downtown area to explore. You don’t have to buy anything from any stores or sit down at a restaurant to say you’ve explored a new place.

Just take a nice long walk around and stop in some spots to entertain yourself! You may meet some lovely shop owners and make note of places you’ll want to revisit someday.

Hit up a library or bookstore

I love spending time in a cute, local bookstore. There are so many to get lost in around the world, and bookstore owners tend to be extremely friendly and knowledgeable. If the place you’re vacationing in doesn’t have any bookstores, you can also stop in the library and look around or get caught up in a good book.

While these free activities may sound simple, they’re easy to enjoy and can be a whole lot of fun. Enjoy yourself, and remember to take it easy!
