Her Parents Tried To Sabotage Her Dream Internship Since They Don’t Approve Of Her Becoming A Marine Biologist, And She Doesn’t Think She Can Ever Forgive Them

Then, one day, her parents actually contacted the marine research institute, pretended to be her, and attempted to turn down the internship behind her back!

“Luckily, the institute reached out to me for confirmation, and I was able to straighten things out,” she said.

Even so, her parents’ behavior made her feel both unsupported and betrayed. That’s why she decided to cut contact with her family for the time being.

In her mind, she needs to just focus on her internship and her budding career without constantly being hounded by her family’s negativity. So, she wound up blocking their phone numbers and stopped replying to any of their emails.

Now, that was a few months ago. However, her family has not stopped trying to contact her, and more recently, they’ve begun accusing her of being both selfish and cruel for cutting them off like that.

“They argue that my parents were just worried about me and wanted what’s best for me. My parents have also tried to reach out, saying they’re sorry but still insisting I reconsider my career,” she vented.

But while she feels guilty for cutting contact with her parents, she doesn’t think she’ll ever be able to forgive her parents for trying to sabotage her dream internship. And she’s not sure if that makes her the jerk or not.

How would you feel if your family was so negative about your dream career? Did she have a right to cut them off? What would you have done?
