When her boyfriend insisted on doing things his way, she told him it was more expensive, and he said it was because she ate too much.
She asked him to repeat himself, as she was so shocked she thought she misheard him. However, he simply laughed and confirmed his comment.
“I felt upset and shut down, [and] he retreated to our room for a bit,” she recalled.
“When he finally came out, he asked me why I was upset, and I asked him if he was serious. I explained why I shut down. He told me I can’t take a joke.”
She’s been working at trying not to be too sensitive regarding certain ‘jokes‘ and comments, but this one really struck a nerve, considering it’s one out of many body-related jabs he’s made.
“I’m at my wits end with constantly hearing how much he doesn’t approve of my body, but I really need to hear if I am again overreacting,“ she added.
“We generally have a good relationship and get along well, but lately, it seems like he makes more negative comments than positive ones.”
