A few moments later, Loki started to track the scent throughout the wooded area located behind the missing woman’s family home.
Eventually, Loki led the troopers to discover a pair of gloves and a cane belonging to the missing woman and tracked them to a steep ravine.
That was when troopers discovered the missing 81-year-old woman, trapped at the base of the steep ravine, unable to move.
“Troopers were assisted by Ogemaw County EMS and Richland [Township] Fire Rescue with carrying her out of the woods as a heavy rainstorm rolled in,” wrote the MSP Third District in their news release.
After speaking with the poor woman, who had clearly been through an ordeal, it was discovered that she had been lost in the woods behind her house for approximately 20 hours. Can you imagine how terrifying that must have been?
While the police did not share the identity of the missing woman, we hope she’s feeling much better after the traumatic incident and is safe with her family.
This story is another reminder of just how powerful, hardworking police K-9s and their brave handlers can be.
