Her Stepsister Slept With Her Fiancé, Then Married Him, And She’s Wearing Her Old Engagement Ring
Five years ago, this 28-year-old woman was engaged to an older guy named Ryan, who is now 37. Sadly, their engagement ended after her stepsister Kelly pleaded with her not to get married since she was in love with Ryan, and the feelings were mutual.
Kelly stated that Ryan was too scared to end their engagement since he didn’t want to cause pain to her or her family.
She instantly went to Ryan, who denied everything Kelly said and played it off like Kelly was all over him but it wasn’t reciprocal. Ryan implored her not to believe a word Kelly said, and so she didn’t.
“Kelly grew resentful and made nasty comments about how I was forcing a man who didn’t even love me to marry me because I had low self-esteem constantly,” she explained.
“A month later, she sent me a video of them [sleeping together] in my bed and multiple screenshots of him telling her he loved her, how he wished she was the girl he was marrying, how he hated that I wouldn’t let them be together.”
“I was devastated and angry, but my best friend convinced me not to go nuclear on them and instead to quietly move out when Ryan was at work the next week. So that’s what I did. I contacted my dad and my stepmom and asked them if I could move in temporarily.”
She took off her engagement ring and left it behind, then pulled the money in the account she shared with Ryan that was earmarked for wedding expenses and put it in her own account.
The remaining balance she transferred to Ryan, and then she shut the account down. Once she had that finished, she took the evidence she had of Ryan and Kelly’s affair and sent it to every single one of their family members (and Ryan’s, too).
Ryan did his best to get her to take him back, but then she learned he used her engagement ring and proposed to Kelly with it, so she blocked him.
Kelly is her stepsister on her mom’s side of the family. She has three more siblings (two steps, one half) from her mom’s second marriage, and all of them went to Kelly and Ryan’s wedding.
She attempted to tell her family that she was so hurt by them showing the cheaters support, but they maintained they couldn’t stop being in Kelly and Ryan’s lives since they were family in the end.
Since the wedding, she has not spent any holidays with her mom and that side of her family, and her two biological siblings haven’t either.
A year after the wedding, Kelly and Ryan moved into her mom and stepdad’s home. She ended up getting closer to her dad and stepmom over all the drama, so it hasn’t all been awful for nothing, she says.
She has moved on from Ryan, and her husband proposed to her on New Year’s Day. They held a little engagement party, and she invited her mom and half-sister to attend.
“They never turned up because I was “excluding half of our family,” she said. “I never invited my stepdad or stepsiblings because they were pretty hurtful when it came out that Kelly/Ryan were sleeping together.”
“They claimed it wasn’t their fault I got in the way of “true love” and made me out to be some sort of vindictive Disney villain for being angry with them.”
Her wedding was set for this summer, but she and her husband pushed it back to next year after he expressed concern about COVID potentially getting worse.
So they had a courthouse wedding, and she found out that she was pregnant. Only her dad’s side was informed of the wedding and pregnancy.
Her stepmom likes to knit, and is making a couple of items for her baby. Her stepmom posted on social media, tagging her about how thrilled she was to have another grandchild on the way.
Well, her mom saw the post and called her up, saying she could not believe she didn’t share the news of her pregnancy with her.
Ever since that initial call, her mom has extended several invitations to her and her husband to come over to her house, but she’s turned them all down.
“Even Kelly reached out to my husband to congratulate us. I was furious,” she added. “The next time my mom and stepdad called me, I finally laid into them.”
“I told them I didn’t want them to keep inviting me over when they knew I would be forced to see Kelly/Ryan if I came, I told them how hurt and angry I still am over what they did to me and how my ‘family’ dismissed my feelings, I told them how they wouldn’t throw Kelly/Ryan away, but they were so quick to leave me out to rot whilst I was going through the worst betrayal I’d ever experienced in my life, I told them I wasn’t even sure I wanted people like them in my child’s life.”
“My mom was crying hysterically and kept saying I was being cruel and I couldn’t deprive her of her first grandchild.”
This child won’t be her mom’s first grandchild, as her sister adopted two girls, but her mom doesn’t make an effort with them.
Her mom sobbed about how she is probably the only person who will give her a grandchild, as her stepsisters are struggling to get pregnant and her half-sister doesn’t want kids.
Her stepdad accused her of being petty for holding a grudge over the Kelly and Ryan incident, which all went down five years ago.
Her stepdad thinks that since she found true love, she should be sympathetic to Kelly and Ryan’s love.
“He said Kelly/Ryan were happy together, so I should be happy for them the way they’re happy for me and my husband,” she continued.
“The ironic thing is my sister told me Kelly/Ryan looked like they were on the verge of divorce, and they argue constantly (my mom complains to her about them) and how my siblings all hate him but pretend they like him for Kelly’s sake.”
She hung up the phone since she was so angry, she was about to burst into tears, and she didn’t want her mom and stepdad to hear that.
Her mom’s side of the family has bombarded her with texts and calls following that conversation, insisting she needs to get over the Kelly and Ryan affair.
She and her husband have switched phones so he can read her messages for her because she does not want to read them.
She’s not sure how to get her family to understand her perspective. While she would hate to have to stop speaking to them entirely, she’s not sure she sees another option.
What advice do you have for her?
