“She was easier, while I always struggled with anxiety and my emotions. The real reason my sister feels the way she does, I believe, is because I had a mental health crisis in school, and people talked about it and me for ages after. I don’t think she ever forgave me for that.”
Recently, she found out that her sister was getting married to a guy she had met in college. She received an invite but decided to RSVP no.
Her parents wanted her to go from the start, but her sister was originally okay with her not going. However, her sister’s future in-laws began asking why she wouldn’t go, so now her sister wants her there to depict a happy, healthy family.
“Her fiancé told me to make sure I ‘take my meds and practice a smile,’ so his family won’t realize how weird I am,” she added.
“My sister also told me not to tell some of his friends that I’m her sister because she [still] denies me. It’s a mess. My parents talk about how bad it will look if I’m not there.”
She still refuses to go to the wedding but wonders if going would save her a lot of trouble.
Should she go to the wedding or stand her ground?
