Without government funds to preserve the shipwreck, financial resources are limited. The locals have resorted to raising money themselves through a GoFundMe campaign.
Their aim is to get the ship out of the water and put it on display as a tourist attraction for the small community. So far, they have received 9,895 Canadian dollars out of their $50,000 goal.
