This 28-year-old woman has a 30-year-old husband, and her husband has a little sister a year younger than she is.
Sadly, her husband’s little sister got into a car accident when she was 14, leaving her paralyzed from her neck down ever since then. Her husband’s little sister was only physically affected by the accident, but not mentally.
“My husband was 17 at the time, and the driver,” she explained. “He feels responsible even though my sister-in-law has never blamed him.”
Currently, her 64-year-old mother-in-law is the full-time caretaker of her sister-in-law. Her husband actually works as a nurse, and one of his female friends from work helps care for his little sister at a discounted price.
Pretty recently, her husband’s friend had to take a leave of absence from work, so she and her husband have been stepping in to help care for her sister-in-law.
She and her husband help her sister-in-law get dressed and take baths as part of helping to care for her.
“Seeing how caring, gentle, and compassionate my husband is just reinforces why I fell in love with him,” she said.
“My mother-in-law, as she gets older, has unfortunately declined physically and often vents about having to care for her daughter but never where she can hear. My husband and I have talked about having his sister move in with us. We have the room, the house is already compliant with her needs, and we aren’t having children.”
“My husband would quit his job to be her full-time caretaker, and I would keep working. Financially, this is very doable for us even without my husband’s income, as I make more than enough. I am 1000% on board with this.”
