She Feels Overshadowed That Her Sister-In-Law Went Into Labor Not Long After Her Wedding Reception Started

“From that point on, nobody ever talked about our marriage, just baby Ben,” she explained.

“The times I think a relative mentioned our wedding can be counted on one hand. I get it; new additions to the family are ultimately more important, but my wedding day will never just be about my wedding; it’ll be about Ben. Whenever he comes up, or I see him, I feel bitter because I’m reminded of what happened at the wedding. Yes, I know I’m jealous of a baby. I feel like [crud] for it.”

Nate felt the same way for a while but eventually got over it. Unfortunately, she hasn’t gotten over it yet.

Ben’s first birthday is coming up in a few weeks, and no one has mentioned her and Nate’s first anniversary. Instead, everyone is focused on Ben’s birthday celebration. When she got the invite, she told Nate she didn’t want to go, as she’d likely feel mopey the whole time.

Nate politely told Denise she wouldn’t attend, and Denise texted her, demanding to know why she didn’t want to be there for Ben’s birthday. Denise said she picked up on how she acted strangely or sadly any time Ben was mentioned and was hurt that she wouldn’t open up about why that was happening.

“I decided to be honest and tell her that I’ve been very depressed and that I felt that my wedding was overshadowed by her unexpected labor,” she said.

“I did tell her I’m not mad at anyone because it was unplanned; I just need to not be reminded of it on my anniversary.”

Instead of responding, Denise blocked her number, and Wayne told Nate they were no longer invited to the celebration. To make matters worse, Wayne told her and Nate not to come near their family anymore.

Was there anything she could have done differently to avoid all this drama?
