Beautyblenders are one of the most sacred inventions in the world. The clever little makeup sponges have changed the game in the beauty world.

While yes, makeup sponges have been around for a long time, the shape of the Beautyblender made applying makeup a lot easier.

Most makeup lovers have makeup sponges in their collection, whether they’re Beautyblenders, Beautyblender dupes, or the more basic triangle wedge sponges. While they’re great tools to have, they do have a downside.

Like any makeup applicator, if you don’t clean it regularly, you can be doing a lot more harm than good to your face.

While makeup sponges are great, they’re a breeding ground for bacteria. I know that’s not what you want to hear, but it’s important to know. Sponges are naturally likely to grow bacteria and even mold as they hold onto a lot of moisture.

So, if you’re using a makeup sponge that hasn’t been cleaned in weeks, months, or even years, every time you use it, you’re adding a bunch of nasty bacteria to your face, which can lead to breakouts.

But have no fear! There are easy ways to clean your makeup sponges at home without spending money on fancy cleaners or buying new ones. All you need is some water, dish or bar soap and a clean towel.

You can purchase the official Beautyblender cleanser, but many people have found that using dish soap, which you likely already have in your house, is just as effective.

To clean your makeup sponge with dish soap, squirt a dime-sized amount onto the sponge and gently massage it for about a minute. While you want to give your sponge a thorough clean, don’t forget to be gentle, as you don’t want to risk ripping it.
