Her mother-in-law’s comments upset her, and when she asked her to tone down her attitude, she didn’t stop.
She eventually snapped at her mother-in-law, telling her Ellie is her child and will always be important before leaving the gathering with Ellie in tow.
Later, her fiancé came home confused as to what had happened, as her mother-in-law claimed she had been verbally abusive toward her, which was far from the truth.
As tensions grew between her and her mother-in-law, she and Ellie had been alienated by her fiancé’s family, and she eventually realized she’d have to set her anger aside so Ellie could get to know them.
A few days later, she decided to put the past behind them and took Ellie to another gathering at her mother-in-law’s house.
“[Everything] was fine until I heard a horrid scream,” she recalled.
“I [rushed] up the stairs, and I saw Ellie crying while my fiancé’s mom was screaming at her while holding [a] teddy which her mother made.”
She was appalled to see her mother-in-law had taken Ellie’s precious stuffed animal away and was still berating her.
She snapped again, and her mother-in-law snapped back, reiterating how she couldn’t stand the fact that she was choosing someone unrelated to her by blood to be in her wedding.
Her husband took the teddy back and ushered Ellie out of the room as she told her mother-in-law that if she didn’t like the idea of Ellie being in the wedding, she should skip the ceremony. Her mother-in-law began to cry as they left.
Since then, her fiancé’s family has been contacting her to get her to apologize for what she said to her mother-in-law because they thought she was too harsh.
