While She May Be Best Known For Her Role As “The Nanny,” Fran Drescher Also Founded A Non-Profit Cancer Organization, Was Appointed As A U.S. Diplomat, And Is Now The President Of The SAG-AFTRA Union

In 2021, thanks to her background in acting and politics, Fran began campaigning to become President of the SAG-AFTRA union, which represents over 160,000 media professionals, including actors, broadcast journalists, recording artists, etc.

In September 2021, Fran was elected the SAG-AFTRA President. Two years later, they announced the recent SAG-AFTRA strike after failing to reach an agreement on a new contract with major Hollywood studios. The strike affected the entertainment industry greatly, but Fran encouraged union members to stay strong and hold their ground until a fair contract was given. The historical strike finally ended in November 2023.

“I want this negotiation and this strike to begin this conversation of what is success, and to redefine it so every decision we make in business includes empathy and spirituality and respect,” Fran told Vanity Fair after the strike had ended.

Currently, Fran is working on a musical adaptation of “The Nanny” and is still appearing in films and shows while working hard as the SAG-AFTRA President. Talk about an impressive career!
