Given their conversation in the past, she was shocked. She asked him if he was kidding, and he told her he wasn’t.
In response, she outright rejected the idea, explaining that they’d already had this discussion years ago, adding that her thoughts had not wavered.
Her husband informed her that he had let their children know that there was a possibility of them getting a dog but that he would have to check with their mother to make sure.
She suggested the idea of getting a cat or gerbil instead, but she would not be willing to get a dog. After that, she said that he needed to let their children know that they wouldn’t be getting a dog.
“Well, he ended up telling them that we couldn’t get a dog because I said no, so now I’m seen as the bad guy, and I’m just so fed up,” she shared.
Since the conversation with her husband, she’s been wondering whether or not she should cave and get a dog to make her children happy.
A few days later, she had another talk with her husband about the issue. She asked him why he gave their children the false impression that getting a dog was within the realm of possibility when she’d never said she would consider this.
He told her that he assumed that because so many years had passed since the dog attacked her, she had healed from her trauma, and he said that he and their children wanted a dog now.
She said that she still didn’t want a dog, and she was pretty sure that there was only a slim chance she would change her mind.
They continued talking and finally came to a compromise, deciding to get another pet instead. Also, she eventually had a talk with her kids to explain her past and why she wouldn’t feel safe owning a dog.
Luckily, her children were incredibly understanding and accepting, but she knew that they were a bit disappointed that they wouldn’t be getting a dog.
