The survey also had its participants rank their most disliked stereotypes in media. The fourth most disliked one on that list was romantic tropes, which include storylines that portray characters whose main focus seems to be finding love or a picturesque romantic relationship.
While it doesn’t seem that anyone wants to cut romantic relationships out of film and television completely, the general consensus appears that people want to see a wider variety of relationships in the media.
This way, people may have an easier time identifying with the people they see portrayed on screen.
After all, wouldn’t it be nice to see more movies or shows that focus on great friends who support each other through life’s ups and downs instead of only helping them figure out each other’s love lives?
