Her mother and her stepfather met in the country where their family currently lives.
Even though her stepfather never lived in her father’s house, she does acknowledge that he’s been a huge part of her family’s life, and he’s done a lot to help support the family.
While she understands the idea of allowing her stepfather to have some of the money from the sale of her father’s house because he contributed to taking care of them, she doesn’t think her half-siblings should have access to any of this money.
Her stepfather owns his own home and has other financial assets. He has never asked to receive any of the money from the sale of her father’s house, and he isn’t expecting to receive any, either.
In order to pay off her father’s house, they used her father’s money that he had left over after he passed away. Once they paid off the house, they used money from the tenants who rented it out to pay off the utilities.
When they didn’t have anyone renting out the house, or if they weren’t earning any money from it, her mother was responsible for making any necessary payments over the years.
She pointed out that her half-siblings would most likely receive inheritance money from their fathers, so allowing them to have some of the money after selling her father’s home doesn’t feel right.
Despite being uncomfortable with this, she hasn’t expressed this to her mother yet.
She doesn’t want to seem like a jerk, and she grew up in a culture where having differing views or arguing on how to split an inheritance is wrong.
“I have mentioned something in the past about the house being mine and not wanting to sell it at the time, and my mom made a comment about me not being a nice person for saying that,” she shared.
When their disagreement happened, she told her mother she was sorry and dropped the subject, but now that the topic is currently being discussed again, she doesn’t know if or how to share her thoughts without upsetting anyone.
