A month after this all happened, his girlfriend was officially diagnosed with depression, as well as an anxiety disorder, and she was prescribed medication.
“She claims that her mental break happened because of her relationship with her parents and because “We’re living together for so long, and you still won’t marry me,” he said.
“I explain that I love her, but I want to marry a person who’d keep my back if anything would go wrong. I want her to find a job, to find something to have in her life except me (we’ve talked through it before, even before we started dating). She agreed and tried once again.”
Unfortunately, his girlfriend never found a job, and her mental health has declined recently. She has experienced several more panic attacks, can barely walk, and doesn’t do any chores around the house.
His girlfriend is still taking her medication, but her psychiatrist told them that she really would be better off back in the clinic. He cannot afford to pay for his girlfriend to go back, as he just doesn’t have enough money. And again, his girlfriend keeps bringing up that she is dejected because he will not marry her.
“It seems like I only hurt her and expect something that [was] never meant to happen,” he continued.
“When we started dating, I never thought I would provide for both of us and care for both of us. I still love her, and she still loves me, but I feel like this relationship is doomed, one way or another.”
So, while his girlfriend is blaming him for her mental breakdown and saying she’s traumatized because he won’t marry her, he has a valid reason for not wanting to do this. He expects his girlfriend to share their responsibilities before he considers walking down the aisle.
What do you think he should do?
