You have spoiled dairy products in your fridge
In the early days of colonial America, people pinned normal everyday occurrences on witches, including spoiled milk or butter. If, for some reason, the cows aren’t producing milk, witches would be faulted for that, too. As you can see, when people didn’t understand how something had happened, their first course of action was to point their fingers toward witchcraft.
You have exhibited strange, stubborn, or unladylike behavior
Men and women were held to different standards. If you are a woman known for quarreling with your neighbors or family members, that was evidence that you were a witch. It was considered unnatural and Satan-like for a woman to have trouble getting along with people since women are supposed to be cordial and pleasant. On the other hand, if a man were to display stubborn behavior and had a reputation for getting into arguments, he would be thought of as tough and masculine.
You are of low economic status
Those who were unable to support themselves financially were prime candidates for being accused of witchcraft. For example, Sarah Good relied on the community for assistance, often going from house to house, begging for food. Because of this, she was disliked by neighbors and became one of the first women to be charged with witchcraft.
So, would you have been found guilty of practicing witchcraft in 1692?
