“My stepsister was upset that they didn’t overrule what my mom wanted. She has some abandonment issues.”
Because her stepsister was abandoned by her biological father and didn’t have a relationship with him, she was very triggered when her stepdad’s side of the family said she couldn’t have the ring.
Now, her dad and his wife expect her to get the ring from her grandparents and give it to her stepsister to make her feel like she belongs.
“His wife said they had both lived in my mom’s shadow from day one, and this could be a time where they are not treated as secondary to my mom,” she said.
“She said her daughter always adored me and never saw me as a stepsister, and it hurt her that I never saw her as a sister. She said I could do this and make her feel loved like she deserves.”
She refused to give her stepsister her mom’s engagement ring, and her stepmom called her selfish and said she was being hurtful.
Should she consider giving her mom’s engagement ring to her stepsister, or was she right to keep it for herself?
