A Hidden Cavern With Over 20 Pairs Of Ancient Sandals Was Discovered In Spain, And Now, Nearly Two Centuries Later, Scientists Are Using Radiocarbon Dating Techniques To Determine How Old The Artifacts Really Are

Apparently, the unusual preservation of the organically made objects is due to the lack of humidity in the cave they were discovered in. Typically, a dry wind runs through the cave, making it difficult for plant-loving bacteria to thrive.

The findings have shed light on the fact that prior to agriculture, human communities engaged in more complex lifestyle practices than previously thought. However, it is still unclear as to who created the objects and what specific roles the items served.

Researchers speculate they may have been used in ancient funerary rituals. For instance, some of the sandals showed no sign of wear, suggesting that they were buried with individuals for the afterlife.

There is still much to investigate about the cave and prehistoric people’s ways of life. Hopefully, answers will soon be found.
