While continuing to work for her bank and the Independent Order of Saint Luke in her later years, Maggie was also a member of important organizations like the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, the National Association of Colored Women, and the Virginia Industrial School for Girls.
After her health declined with age, Maggie passed away at 70 in 1934. Her beautiful home in Virginia is now a historic site owned by the National Park Service.
Maggie’s work and advocacy lasted well beyond her years on Earth, and she will always be remembered as a remarkable force who helped others during a cruel time.
