Everyone loves a good side braid. The issue is when you don’t have anything to tie it off with. This lovely side braid won’t unravel even without a hair elastic.
First, pull your hair to one side. Then, braid your hair like normal in the style of your choice. You can never go wrong with the classic three-strand braid!
Once you reach the tips of your hair, create a hole in the center of your braid near the unbraided ends of your hair. Pull the unbraided ends through the opening. Direct the remaining strands through your braid a second time to ensure that it stays secure.
Pen Knot
For this hairstyle, grab a pen, pencil, or any object resembling those writing utensils. Brush your hair to get rid of any pesky knots. Next, gather all your hair back into a low pony. Then, take your pen and twirl your tresses all the way around it, creating a bun.
After wrapping all your hair around the pen, angle the pen toward the back of your head and push it through the base of your bun. This will work to secure the layers of your hair together. And if you ever need to jot down some notes, you’ll have a pen at the ready.
Faux Fishtail Braid
For the faux fishtail braid, gather all your hair to one side of your head. Poke a small opening in your hair near the base of your neck. Then, pull your hair through the hole. Create another hole and pull your hair through that, repeating the process until you reach the end of your hair.
By the end of the braid, your hair should stay fastened due to its tightly woven strands. Pry a few locks of hair loose to give your fishtail braid a more textured appearance. This hairstyle can also be sported with double braids!
