Growing up, his wife’s family believed that men were the ones who worked and earned a salary, while women stayed home to take care of the house and children.
All of the women in his wife’s family, including her mother, sisters, and female cousins, have never worked because they have all adhered to these gender norms.
Then, he expressed to her that since they’re married, their lives won’t be the same, and they’ll have to adjust.
“She got visibly quiet after I said this, and my friends quickly tried to change the conversation topic,” he shared.
When this happened, he realized that he may have hurt his wife’s feelings. But he doesn’t think he was inaccurate with what he said.
