Since her son’s grandparents have no other children or grandchildren, they started getting upset when they realized no one was left to carry on their family name.
Her son had taken her last name when he was born, but now his grandparents are telling her that if she changes his last name to theirs, he would be the primary heir of their inheritance.
While this might sound great, she has some concerns, and she also can’t believe her son’s grandparents would deny him any inheritance because he didn’t share the same last name as them.
“I said I would consider it, to be polite, and have left it at that,” she added.
“I actually have a pretty good life as it is. My family has been very supportive, and because of the whole court thing, my son’s father had to have life insurance with him as the beneficiary.”
She’s spoken to family members about the situation, and they think it would be wrong of her to sacrifice her son getting a lot of money. Now, she thinks she’ll wait until her son is 16 to let him decide whether he wants to change his name.
Should she change her son’s name now or wait until he’s older?
