“He was still allowed to hang out with John but not bring him over. My son’s birthday is coming up, and what we do is have a small celebration [with] just family and some close friends, and then the birthday person celebrates the day as they wish. My son wants to spend it with John, but also wants to invite John to the family celebration part.”
His son asked him several times if he could invite John over for the family portion of his birthday celebration, and he said no each time. His son kept apologizing for John’s “honesty” and behavior, but he has no interest in changing his mind.
His son eventually stopped bringing up John going to the party, but he can tell he’s still very upset. Now, he’s wondering if he should grin and bear John’s behavior once again.
Should he let his son invite John to the family party or keep things separate?
