“I do this whenever I go on holiday and don’t tell them until I’m already gone. However, I got pressured for the reason a lot and eventually had to say that I’d be on holiday in Japan.”
Right away, one of her aunts asked what hotel she’d be staying in during her trip, and said they should try and make it a family vacation. She went ahead and told them about her hotel situation, knowing many of her family members wouldn’t be able to stay there.
One of her family members looked up the hotel and informed other relatives. She began getting a bunch of angry text messages from some of them who told her she was selfish for not including them on her vacation.
“I snapped back in our group chat and said that I was sick of them inviting themselves on every single holiday [and] that just because we’re family, we don’t need to spend all our time off together,” she said.
She also told her family there was no way she’d be inviting them on her solo vacation that she’s already paid for herself to a country she’s wanted to visit for years.
Now, things have gotten worse, and her family is continuing to blow up her phone with angry messages.
Should she feel bad for not inviting her family on her vacation?
