There are only two guys in his friend group, including him. The other is openly gay, and his friend’s parents know that. So, she recently asked him if he’d be willing to attend the gender reveal party and tell her parents he’s her baby’s father.
He doesn’t feel comfortable with this for several reasons. He has no idea how long he’d have to keep up the lie and hates the idea of his family hearing about it and thinking he got a girl pregnant without telling them.
“I explained this to her the next time I saw her, and she looked disappointed but agreed it was up to me,” he said.
Unfortunately, instead of respecting his boundaries, his friend group has been bombarding him for three weeks, telling him how stressed his friend is and that he’s let her down.
His friend has tried to convince her that he would only have to pretend to be the baby’s father for one day, but he doubts that and worries about what the lie could spiral into.
“She was almost crying, confessing she had no one else to ask and begging me to reconsider,” he recalled.
“I feel awful about it, but know I’ll just be stressed about it getting out somehow.”
Is he right to refuse to lie for his friend?
