When she was six to seven months pregnant, her dad and stepmom announced they were also expecting a baby.
While she thought she’d be carrying on her mom’s naming tradition herself, her dad and stepmom swooped in and announced they’d be naming their child Emilio.
“My sister and I were horrified and spoke to my dad privately,” she said.
“While mom did want someone to continue on the acronym idea, we found it disrespectful to do it with the woman he was cheating on her with.”
She informed her dad that her mom wanted one of the kids to pass on her tradition, but he shut her down, telling her it would make more sense for his baby to complete the sibling acronym instead of hers.
Two weeks before she gave birth, her dad and stepmom discovered they weren’t having a baby boy like they thought.
So when she gave birth to her daughter, she went ahead and named her the name her mom wanted, Elise, before they could use it for their baby girl.
“They could name her Emily or something else, but it wouldn’t be the name my mother chose, and that’s what mattered to me,” she explained.
“My father and especially my stepmother are furious at me for ‘ruining’ my mother’s lasting wishes and tarnishing her idea.”
Now, she has some of her father’s side of the family berating her and saying she was petty for naming her daughter Elise.
She didn’t expect to receive so much backlash and is very stressed out. Her dad and stepmom have begun taunting her, telling everyone their baby will be “the real ‘E’ baby.”
