“When he expressed his concerns with me, it absolutely gutted me, and I clarified how deeply I do care and want to have a connection with his kid despite what it might appear,” she said.
She had to remind her boyfriend of how there are very few opportunities for her to visit with his daughter, considering she rarely has time to see him.
Unfortunately, her boyfriend made it clear that she has to be the one to reach out and bond with his daughter, and he shouldn’t have to facilitate anything.
“In my defense, I feel like a dynamic like this takes a lot of time spent,” she said. “And it’s especially confusing with him candidly not prioritizing our relationship but asking me to prioritize this part of his life. It’s a lot like pushing the gas and the brakes at the same time.”
Since their conversation, things have been uncomfortable between her and her boyfriend. While she wants to please him and have a good relationship with his daughter, she doesn’t want to be the only one putting in a lot of effort to make that happen.
“I’m essentially the first girlfriend he’s ever brought around his kid,” she added. “My position was always to be respectful of her and not push too hard to be best friends right away while also being considerate [of] everything going on [in] his life right now. But apparently, it’s come across as apathetic.”
