A 26-year-old guy is currently in a relationship with his girlfriend, and she’s 25-years-old. They have been exclusive for just about a year now, and he’s positive she’s the girl of his dreams and the one he wants to spend the rest of his life with.
His girlfriend is incredibly supportive of his interests and goals, and she loves him for who he is. She’s also incredibly sweet and a wonderful human being.
Now, he is bi, but his girlfriend is completely straight. Her family also happens to not like anyone who isn’t straight, as they are ultra-conservative.
She asked him if he would like to meet her family as she pointed all of this out to him, and he said that he would like to meet them.
He just figured he would never mention to them that he’s really bi and that there would never be a problem.
“The big day arrived, and we were welcomed by her mother at the door,” he explained. “The mother guided us to the living room. My girlfriend’s siblings and her dad were already sitting on the couch.”
“My girlfriend introduced me to every family member. Her dad looked familiar to me, but I couldn’t remember where I have seen this guy before.”
“I just ignored these thoughts and focused on having good conversations with her family. Everything went well, and I felt like I left a good impression on her family.”
After spending time with his girlfriend’s family, he gave her a ride back to her apartment, and he ended up sleeping over.
The very next morning, he was surprised to see that someone had called him 7 different times and also left him 3 text messages. As he read through the texts, it hit him; he knew exactly why his girlfriend’s dad had looked so very familiar to him: he used to hook up with her dad.
This all happened 4 years ago, and at that point in his life, he had just come out as being bi, so he was really interested in experimenting with a lot of different guys.
He met his girlfriend’s dad on an app, and her dad had mentioned to him that he was gay yet married to a woman. He can now say he feels bad for hooking up with a married man in the first place, but that wasn’t at the top of his list of concerns back then.
“Back to the text messages,” he said. “My girlfriend’s dad wrote to me that he will not accept me in his family. He offers me a huge amount of money to leave his daughter alone. He also wrote that if I say the truth to my girlfriend, it will just ruin the family, and she will hate me forever. He said I have to break up before Christmas.”
“My girlfriend noticed my distress, but I brushed it off and told her that the text messages were just from my mom. I honestly don’t know what to do. No matter what I’ll do, I’m going to be the bad guy. I don’t want to break my girlfriend’s heart. I don’t want to destroy her family. I feel like my future with her is fading away…”
He honestly feels like this is karma coming back to slap him in the face. Do you think he should take the money and run?
