A 15-year-old girl recently completed a babysitting and first-aid course so that she could offer up her services as a babysitter in order to make some money.
One weekend ago, the parents of her little sister’s classmate asked if she could babysit for their kids while they went to a wedding.
Before she agreed, she questioned the couple regarding how long they were planning to be at the wedding, as she wanted to see if she should pack her things and prepare to stay at their house overnight.
The couple assured her that by the time the clock struck midnight, they would certainly be back home from the wedding.
“So I checked with my dad if that was okay because he is my ride,” she explained. “He doesn’t want me alone in a car with adults that he does not know.”
“So my dad was there to pick me up at 11:50. The kids were all asleep, and I was watching TV. I had texted them at 11:00 to double-check that they would be back in time. The mom texted me back, “yes.”
“12:30, they still aren’t there. I texted again. No answer. I called my dad, and he is pissed. Not at me. One o’clock. I call them. No answer. My dad went and got a coffee at home and came back. He is all calm. Not good. He is ready to blow.”
She kept on texting them every 15 minutes until 2:20 came along. At that point, she came up with a plan as to how she could get them to come back ASAP.
She sent a text to this couple that someone had attempted to break into the garage, though their alarm scared the person off.

“They were home drunk in an Uber in 15 minutes,” she said. “My dad made them pay me for my extra time before we left. He told me that I’m not allowed to babysit for them again unless I charged them for an overnight stay.”
Well, a couple of days later, she went to pick her sister up from school and ran into the mom who she had babysat for. The mom started badgering her for lying about the break-in and for causing her and her husband to be upset.
She simply apologized and maintained that the alarm had been set off, so that’s why she reached out to them. This mom accused her of being a liar, but that didn’t make her feel bad because this mom and her husband lied to her about what time they were going to be home.
“My mom says I should have just sucked it up, but my dad says that they broke our deal,” she continued.
“I kind of feel bad for tricking them into coming home from their party. But they could have told me it was an overnight or texted me that they were going to be late. My dad has brought me an overnight bag before when that happened.”
She added that her mom had wanted her to handle things by calling the police, as her mom was concerned this couple had gotten into some kind of accident. She didn’t want to go with what her mom wanted her to do, though, as she was concerned that could cause some kind of a major scene at the wedding.
She’s left wondering if it really was so wrong of her to lie to this couple to get them to come home after they lied to her about how late they would be out. What do you think?
