When this twenty-one-year-old woman was in high school, she was unfortunately bullied pretty severely.
She was known as the “weird kid” because of her interests, one of which was her toy collection. She particularly enjoyed collecting McDonald’s happy meal toys because she knew that in the future, they would be worth a lot of money.
There was one particular bully who really made her life a living hell, though, and actually encouraged a ton of other high schoolers to target her, too. And one year, on her birthday, that bully took their tormenting one step further.
“For my birthday, she [the bully] got me the full Super Mario happy meal set from 2017 as a joke,” she recalled, “Then, she recorded me opening the gift and sent it around the school.”
At the time, she was super excited about the gift since it was exactly what she was interested in. But, the bully– and everyone else who saw the video of her opening the gift– only used her excitement to fuel their fire.
She ended up being called “happy meal” by everyone at school for the rest of the year. Her bully would also sometimes throw McDonald’s french fries at her or even put burger wrappers on her desk before class.
Thankfully, though, by the time she finished the tenth grade, most people had forgotten about the happy meal incident, and much of the bullying had subsided.
“Sometimes somebody would call me ‘happy meal’ or ‘french fry,’ but nobody cared anymore. And I forgot about my bully after I graduated and moved to a different province for university,” she said.
Well, that was until about a week ago when her bully randomly reached out to her on social media.
At first, she did not even recognize her bully from their Instagram profile picture. But then, she checked out her bully’s account and was shocked by what she discovered.
Apparently, her bully fell victim to alcohol and drug addiction following high school. Her bully is also currently pregnant with their fourth child. And according to her, her bully’s photos indicated they were not financially stable enough to be supporting four children.
But, after her bully messaged her, she apparently received a long apology for all of the torment. And to be honest, she tried to give her bully the benefit of the doubt and just be friendly back– despite it being kind of obvious that her bully wanted something from her.
Then, after about twenty minutes of lighthearted chit-chat, the truth finally came out. It began with her bully asking if she still had the happy meal birthday present. And even though the gift was technically at her parent’s house in Toronto, she told her bully that she still had it.
Well, right after revealing that, she claims that the entire mood shifted– because then her bully started begging and pleading for the gift back.
“My bully kept saying she had no job and her husband did not make enough money to support her family, and she wanted the toys back to sell them for money,” she explained.
After she heard that, though, she decided to do some research about how much the toys were truly worth.
And she discovered that the gift was worth under one hundred dollars– not exactly a ton of money to support a family with.
So, she ended up telling her bully that she refused to give the toys back– mainly because her bully just did not deserve them after years of ridicule.
If you could not have guessed, though, her bully did not take the news well. In fact, her bully was beyond pissed and went on to leave her several voice messages calling her a complete jerk before blocking her on social media.
And to be honest, she was glad to be rid of her bully once and for all after that. But, once she later told her friends and family about the whole situation, she was shocked to learn that they took her bully’s side.
So now, she has been left wondering if refusing to give her high school bully the happy meal gift back was actually the wrong thing to do.
Why do you think her bully wants the toy back if it is worth so little money? Do you think she had a right to say no or not? If you had been in her shoes, would you have made this same decision?
