When you hear the word ‘salad,’ you might be picturing a bunch of boring bitter, leafy greens. But who says salad can’t be an appetizing affair?
Are you looking for a yummy but healthy Thanksgiving dish? It’s not exactly an easy task when you’re most likely surrounded by Christmas cookies and carbs galore.
So if you’ve found yourself on a diet this year or just want to sneak some more vegetables into your kiddos, check out this delicious salad recipe from Nikki (@nikki.thielmann) on TikTok.
Nikki’s salad is swirling with flavors, both sweet and savory, so you can experience the best of both worlds. There’s nothing distasteful about this Thanksgiving side dish. And it’s exceptionally effortless to throw together.
So head on over to the kitchen, and let’s get into the recipe!
Here’s what you’ll need:
-A head of green leaf lettuce
-Three honey crisp apples, chopped
TikTok; pictured above is Nikki’s salad
-A half cup of toasted walnuts
-Six to eight ounces of crumbled feta
-Four slices of bacon
-Sweet balsamic glaze
First off, it’s essential to wash your lettuce thoroughly. After cleaning the lettuce, chop it up for the salad. Then, cut up three crunchy honey crisp apples into bite-sized pieces. Next, chop up four slices of bacon so you can sprinkle bacon bits all over the salad. Add a half cup of toasted walnuts. Don’t skip out on the toasting; it really brings out the flavor of the nuts! Then, crumble feta cheese on top.
Top off the salad with a sweet balsamic glaze as the dressing. Nikki’s favorite brand is the Oilerie balsamic dressing, which is made locally in Wisconsin. She also loves the Sutter Buttes Olive Oil hickory balsamic, but any brand will suffice. This is optional, but you can also add grilled chicken or steak for some extra protein.
Will you be making this salad for Thanksgiving? Or will you pass on this healthier side dish?
