This twenty-six-year-old woman named Allie was supposed to be a bridesmaid at her friend, Deidre’s, wedding this past month.
She and Deidre have known each other since high school and remained close after they both moved back home a few years later.
And for context, she is six-foot-one and has always been nicknamed “Big Bird.” At the same time, Deidre and the other bridesmaids are about five-foot-four to five-foot-six.
Finally, she is a hobby photographer who enjoys taking photos for fun and posting them on social media– which she did for all of the girls leading up to the wedding.
But, come the day of the ceremony, she learned that Deidre’s professional photographer, Jenny, had gotten sick.
Jenny apparently ate something that made her stomach turn and had to leave the venue right before the ceremony began.
So, Deidre was left without a photographer. But, amidst the scramble, Deidre weirdly asked her to do a perimeter around the venue and make sure that all of the entrances were labeled and that no one was lost.
“I did that in my dress and tennis shoes and made it back in about fifteen minutes. And by the time I got back into the bridal suite, it was nearly time to head into the foyer,” she recalled.
After she walked in, though, she realized that the entire room was silent. Moreover, all of the women were looking at her– including one new face, Ashley.

Ashley is Deidre’s sister, who was previously unsure if they could make the wedding. But, she clearly did, and Deidre had apparently concocted a new plan to solve everything.
First, she was instructed to give up her bridesmaid dress for Ashley. Then, she was told she would be the new wedding photographer and use her Nikon camera since no one wanted iPhone photos to be the official wedding shots.
Deidre never asked her about any of this, though. She was literally just told what was going to happen.
And then, all of the women jumped into action like it was the scene from Cinderella, where the evil stepsisters leave the Disney character in rags.
“Everybody swarmed me and started helping me out of my dress, pulling the rhinestone combs out of my hair, and Deidre took back the bridesmaid gift of the matching Tiffany bracelets we were wearing during the wedding to put on Ashley,” she explained.
And all the while, everyone was trying to make her feel like this was not a huge slap in the face. The girls kept regarding how much of a “better plan” it was and even tried to hype up her photography skills.
Plus, the bridesmaids made a comment about how much better and “more uniform” the wedding photos would look since she– “Big Bird”– was no longer going to be towering in them. How incredibly rude.
But, the final straw was when Deidre told her that she would no longer have a seat at the dinner– since she apparently did not need to sit anyway– and that she could just eat after everyone else.
So, if you can imagine, she was utterly flustered. She went from a bridesmaid to being demoted to a photographer in a matter of seconds.
“And I was immediately pretty hurt by the demand that I would be responsible for not only the wedding photography for free but that everyone was implying I would make the pictures look weird if I was in them,” she vented.
“Plus, the assumption that I would be okay with not having a seat at all or the chance to eat.”
In turn, she ultimately told Deidre that she was not a professional photographer and that she had no clue what she was really doing. Still, though, Deidre just kept saying that she would do great and that it would all work out.
Regardless, she felt totally uncomfortable with everything. So, while the rest of the girls continued to get ready, she packed up her stuff and said she was going to take it out to her car. Then, once she got to the parking lot, she just drove home and never looked back.
And now, even though she was totally hurt and flustered by Deidre’s actions, she has been left wondering if ditching the wedding unannounced was the wrong thing to do.
