This forty-three-year-old woman and her husband have four children– three daughters and one son. She is also excitedly expecting a fifth.

So, each time one of their children was born, she and her husband began contributing money to separate college funds each month.

“I won’t say the exact amount, but my husband has an excellent job– so it’s more than most,” she revealed.

And she never told any of her kids about the fund since it just did not seem necessary.

Anyway, her eldest daughter, El, ended up getting pregnant six years ago when she was just sixteen. El then dropped out of school to raise their child, which she was disappointed about but tried to understand.

After all, she figured that El would eventually go back to school after everything was settled. But that never happened, and El actually has no plans to return to her education.

Instead, the father of El’s child stood by her side, and El went on to have another child. The pair is now also engaged and expecting a third child but are waiting to get married until they can afford it.

In the meantime, she and her husband have been forced to loan El and her fiancé money. At first, El and her fiancé were doing okay, supporting themselves. However, due to the turbulent market and El’s lack of education, her daughter is unable to find a job.

And recently, El’s financial troubles have become a massive point of contention within her family.

It all began when her second eldest daughter, Katie, got accepted into college. Of course, she was over the moon for Katie and finally had to spill the good news about her daughter’s college fund.

Later that day, though, when her daughters were all talking at home, El asked Katie how she planned on paying for college. So, Katie was honest and said she planned to use her college fund. But this nearly gave her a heart attack.

“I was in the room while they were talking, and this made me panic. We had just planned on splitting it between the remaining four [children] since we knew they were going to college,” she recalled.

Then, El asked her if she also had a college fund. And she did not want to lie, so she told El that she did.

So, right before her eyes, El began to practically jump with joy. Then, El went to call her fiancé and tell him about the money before she was forced to break some bad news.

More specifically, she told El that she could not have the money since it was supposed to be for school and nothing else.

And this really upset her daughter, who ended up storming out of the house. Then, the next day, she received a call from El– who was basically begging her to cave and give her the money.

Apparently, El began crying on the phone and said that with the money, she could finally afford a down payment on a house and possibly even a wedding.

Still, though, she decided not to give in and told her daughter that the funds would only be released if and when she went back to school. Then, whatever money is left over could be used for El’s house.

Her offer did not go over well with El, though.

“She got super mad and started yelling at me, saying it’s her money. But I told her that it was my money, and those were my conditions,” she explained.

So, El ended up hanging up the phone and apparently enlisted her fiancé’s family for help– because now, she is getting harassed by El’s future in-laws about the money.

In fact, she and her husband have been accused of being total jerks and setting El up for failure.

Plus, her husband has begun to cave and believes that they probably should just give El the money since they “saved it all for her after all.”

In turn, she has been left looking like the bad guy and is wondering if withholding the money from El is the right thing to do or not.

Do you think she has a right to decide how the money is used or not? Even if she does, do you believe withholding the money from one child is a jerky thing to do? What would you do if you were in her shoes?
