Behind many quaint and picturesque local towns is some kind of unspoken history, scandal, or unsolved mystery that grips the minds of community members for years to come.

You know what I am talking about: perhaps it’s that part of the woods that no children dare enter or the house on the end of the street that never gets any trick-or-treaters.

Whatever it may be, communities across the country have their secrets and whodunits. And recently, people online shared the unsolved mysteries that continue to frighten their local area.

All News Coverage About This House Fire Stopped Out Of Nowhere

“There was a house fire in Platte, South Dakota, about an hour away from my hometown. Okay, but the whole family died in it– mom, dad, and four children.”

“At first, they thought, ‘What a tragedy.’ And then, they assumed that the dad shot everyone– since there were bullet wounds in each person– set the house on fire, and killed himself.”

“Cue the news and a very good news anchor investigating the whole thing. She was getting deep into what happened and found out the dad and mom were embezzling money from an organization they were a part of to help Native American education. They embezzled one million dollars.”

“Then, the police dove into some scattered security camera footage (small rural town) and saw a vehicle drive to and from the property in the wee hours of the night. Hmm, murder-suicide or homicide?”

“Said anchor was getting closer to solving the dang thing, and rumor has it she ended up getting death threats and stopped all coverage.”

“This would only have to be true because she had a special on it often, and there was just no closure on why she stopped looking into it. Not a peep about it since.”

“Boy In The Box”

“In northeast Philadelphia many decades ago, a boy’s body was found abandoned in a box. They have not figured out who the boy is or who committed the crime.”

“He has been given a burial place in a local cemetery with a headstone, just waiting for his real name.”

“I always bring it up when I hear this case, but a woman came forward and said she was raised with the boy and that her mother was horribly abusive.”

“She correctly asserted that he ate baked beans and died in a water-filled tub– both of which were verified unreleased police information.”

“They dismissed her claims because she had a history of mental illness, but I always wonder if she was telling the truth.”

A Woman’s Body Went Missing For 90 Years

“Back in the 1920s, in a small town in Appalachia, there was a woman who was found with her throat slit ear to ear, three gunshot wounds to the back of her head, and a single shot to her newly pregnant stomach.”

“Her body was dumped on a basically deserted mountain and found after she was missing for a week. She was brought to the morgue, along with her purse full of her belongings.”

“But, the next day, the medical examiner went to perform an autopsy on her body and found that her body was missing. The only thing left was her hairbrush which looked as if the body thief had accidentally dropped it on the floor.”

“Fast forward to 2010, a very old hotel in the town burns to the ground. As they demolish it and bust up old concrete, they find a body. They did some DNA testing and found out it was that woman whose body went missing all those years ago.”

“It’s believed that her husband killed her because everyone in that small town knew she was ‘friendly’ with other men and had gotten pregnant by his business partner. Since her husband was fabulously wealthy, he paid everyone off and paid someone to hide her body.”

This Small Town Framed A Mystery As A Media Hoax

“The town I grew up in had an old quarry that was abandoned decades ago when it ran out of materials, and that was the place that teens went to hang out and get drunk and just mess around away from adults.”

“It was a small town, so everyone knew kids went there. But, no one really cared or tried to stop them.”

“But, about ten or so years ago, two boys were found dead there. And apparently, it was not a pretty sight.”

“The place was suddenly swarming with cops, and the company that owned the place appeared, and new fences and cameras were put up to keep people out. Guards also started patrolling the place, tore down all the old buildings, all pretty much overnight.”

“The weird thing, though, is everyone flat out denied that teens would go there– the copes, the company, the dead teens’ parents.”

“They all denied that they had any knowledge of kids going there and [said] that it was just a myth started by reporters to sell the story– which is crazy since everyone knew kids went there. And had been going there for generations.”

“They never found out what happened to the kids, and to this day, they aggressively deny it was ever the town hangout.”
